The “Time Out BE Process" (i.e. ToBe Process) is a periodic stepping back from normal thinking to enter the spirit of choice-creating.
The idea of taking regular “times out,” is old and familiar. It happens in the Sabbath, in religious services, in meditation sessions, retreats, vacations, recreation events, etc. But our use of the term "ToBe" is aimed at a particular kind of “time out,” where we identify our biggest, most important, impossible-seeming issues, MONSTER ISSUES, to face and resolve. The only possible result is "unity" where all the people involved come together.
Indigenous peoples since the beginning of time have been doing this in their Wisdom Circles for millennia, using the Kiva, the peace pipe, ceremonies, psychedelics, mythologies, etc., to achieve the desired sacred quality of thinking that we are no calling "choice-creating." Mostly today, we've lost track of the essential spirit of choice-creating, where the big issues get addressed, all voices are heard, the conversation is open minded and open hearted and where shared perspectives arise. Our words, at least in English ... dialogue, deliberation, debate, discussion, negotiation, etc. ... don't measure up. These words are all preliminary to "decision-making." That's all good of course, but they are not to be used in the ToBe Process. Choice-creating is needed for the ToBe Process because, even for the nation ... or for the world ... we need a process that brings us all together as one and that transforms each of us, our situation and our community.
Dynamic Facilitation reliably evokes the spirit of choice-creating among people today who may not share the same information, language or sense of tribe. So it provides a way for this small group to establish the ToBe Process for themselves. But then, how can a large system of people engage in the ToBe Process, where all the people take regular times out to address their Monster Issues in this respectful, community-building way? where all the people build shared values and perspectives over time? The Wisdom Council Process uses Dynamic Facilitation to add the "ToBe Process" to a large System of people, where we all step back to work together as "We the People." And of course, this transforms the System to what one might call "Wise Democracy."

This basic, holistic, facilitative approach to System transformation is often overlooked in favor of other approaches like top-down or bottom-up.
With the ToBe Process we start by assuming that people in the System are intelligent. They can engage in the necessary collective thinking process, that people can be facilitated to be creative and collaborative ... and reach a shared understandings of Truth, Vision and Strategy. The "ToBE Process" structures periodic moments where the people address and resolve the most important issues in a way that builds community and individual capabilities. Breakthrough progress naturally occurs. And the process evokes a new System of relationships.
