Wise Democracy Strategy
In our society we are facing big impossible-seeming problems, nationally and globally. At the Center for Wise Democracy we believe that most all these problems are natural outcomes of how we have structured ourselves, our System. Consider three basic systems by which a society can organize itself … Triangle, Box, and Circle. The Triangle is hierarchical where a leader, King or elite ultimately governs. The Box is where a Constitution or social contract is ultimately in charge. And the Circle is where the people are ultimately in charge. Most democratic republics, including the United States are Box. The Box sets up competition as the basis for society, how we think, talk and decide issues in economics, politics, justice and the overall culture. This competitive orientation works well if everyone is independent. But as we become more interdependent it begins to break down, resulting in partisan gridlock, ongoing conflicts, and increasing collective stupidity … like where we trash our planet for the sake of mindless consumption.
At the Center for Wise Democracy we have developed a simple, safe solution strategy, simply to add a special kind of conversation to what we already have. We've discovered that the Wisdom Council Process can be applied to global society in a way that it can convene this conversation and facilitate a shift to the Circle. It is common sense, just getting all the people together to talk about what's going on in a way that we make new choices together. There is no coercion and no identifiable risk. It's just inviting everyone into a new conversation on top of what we already have.
We think it'll be surprisingly easy to convene this "We the People" conversation, and shift our system to the Circle. Originally, we thought a U.S. Constitutional Amendment was required for the United States … and for the world. See our story. But now we've discovered that the Wisdom Council Process is more robust than first imagined.
